Landscapes are complex. They are shaped by ongoing relationships between people, climate, and time. Designing them well requires attention to how these forces intersect, rather than efforts to simplify or control them.
KALEIOPE Environmental Design works with residential landscapes as living systems. Our practice is predicated on respect for the land’s innate intelligence and the belief that thoughtful design emerges from close attention to site-specific conditions. Each project begins by understanding the constraints and possibilities of a place, and by examining how outdoor space can support the way a household actually lives.
Home ownership presents opportunities to participate in ecological processes that extend beyond the property line. Decisions made at the scale of the home—grading, planting, water management, and use—shape biodiversity, wildlife movement, and downstream drainage patterns. Through careful planning and iterative design, we help clients think through the implications of these choices and establish a coherent home ecology—one that can grow, adapt, and be nurtured over time.

Residential Design
Every one is different and every site has different needs. It is our goal to offer services to clients across a range of income levels. Please feel free to set up a free 20-minute consultation if you are unsure which service best fits your current needs.
Site Consultation
A brief visit to your site to identify potential issues and discuss long-term vision for your landscape. Afterward we will provide a site report outlining strategies and possibilities to address your needs.
Full-Service Landscape Design
We manage and work through each phase of the design process from analysis to installation. We will determine the baseline conditions of your site, then approach the project based on the context of your neighborhood and bioregion.
Do-It-Yourself Plans
A conceptual layout based on the requirements and goals of your site. These can be roughly dimensioned plans that you can give to a contractor or detailed planting plans that you can install yourself.
Plant Design
Arrangement and installation of a plant community suited to your site’s cultural conditions. Plants are selected for seasonal interest, ease of care, and ecosystem services.

Professional Drafting
We provide professional drafting, modeling, and analysis services to commercial design firms working toward a deadline. Be advised that we work primarily in Vectorworks and QGIS when contacting us for service.
